Gutenberg Bible
1450-1455
The Holy Bible ranks as the all-time best selling, most widely circulated book ever published. The Bible’s Latin Vulgate version is the translation used as the basis for the historic first book ever produced by a mechanical printing press.
During the five-year time span between 1450 and 1455, Johannes Gutenberg, German pioneer printer, manufactured one-hundred eighty copies of what’s known today as the Gutenberg Bible. Full-color, hand-crafted illuminations enhance the inherent beauty of the text.
Of those one-hundred-eighty originals, forty-seven survive.
A carefully-crafted facsimile edition of 1,000 copies was produced and distributed in the United States in 1961. The boxed, two-volume set weighs in at a combined, hefty 40 pounds. Each of the two volumes measures 2.5” thick with a paper size of 12” x 17.75.”
This limited edition replicates what many believe to be the most colorfully illustrated of the surviving forty-seven originals.
The Genesis 1 page of that reproduction, displayed on the cover of Genesis File, introduces each of this book’s ten-chapter website edition and serves as the internet icon for www.GenesisFile.com.
The Book
One hundred fifty years to the day after Charles Darwin published his 1859 first edition of The Origin of Species, this website edition of Genesis File was released November 24, 2009, as an academic counter to the “flaws” and “holes” in Darwin’s conjectures.
World-wide access to the website edition is available to the public, for educational purposes, as a courtesy and without cost. A black-and-white, paperback print edition, without the full-color photo illustrations is available through Amazon.com at a competitive price.
